SEQUELS OF LIPOSUCTION

Liposuction is the most common aesthetic running procedure done worldwide. It is the procedure to take out unwanted fat from part of body or we can say that the fat pockets which are not reducing after exercise or diet.

For any surgical procedure there are some sequels to follow post operatively. Like that, liposuction also follows some sequels. By sequel we mean what someone will feel and have after surgery.

BRUSIES
FLUID DISCHARGE
NUMBNESS
PAIN

STIFNESS.
After liposuction the patient feels some stiffness and hardness around the operated site. This stiffness can come after 24hr and can be there for 4 days till 3 weeks or more. This is because of the fibrosis of the tissue and the inflammatory response towards the process. This is the part of liposuction and also gives a firm look to a body.  Compression garments are given to reduce the stiffness, we can add some anti inflammatory gels as well.  Patient is not allow to bed rest but can move around the very next day and do their daily routine work not heavy exercise.

BRUISES
Bruises are the other sequels  which follows liposuction. Bruises are the blue spots than can appear on the operated areas. If a person has a sensitive skin or the liposuction has done too superficial, like the port touching the dermis, than there is a chance to have bruises around that area. Bruises happen when there is ant trauma to the skin underneath. These bruises disappear in one weeks of time by giving some anti inflammatory gels and tubes and are not permanent.

FLUID DISCHARGE
Liposuction is done by tumescent technique a latest procedure in which we inject a cocktail of saline and other drug. This is used because the fat can swell, becomes soft and there should not be postoperative pain. After liposuction this remained fluid  some of it not being sucked out comes out from the holes or the adits 1mm in diameter.  Other reason is that when the fat is melted or broke becomes serum and comes out from these holes. This does not happen in every part where liposuction is done, but mostly in those areas which comes under pressure when person is in a lying down position, like back, flanks bums and thighs. This fluid discharge can stay for 3 or max four days. We apply sterilize gauze for discomfort.

NUMBNESS
Numbness is also a sequel. After liposuction the superficial nerves which give sensation to the skin can be damage, but that happen anywhere if you perform procedure apart from liposuction. These nerve regenerates in months of time and becomes normal. It will not make any discomfort to the patient accept reduces the feeling to pain. The numbness is not in every part of the body where the procedure is carried out but in few places, like chest, flanks.

PAIN
This the most important question, asked by every patient will there be pain after the procedure.
It is more of stiffness rather than pain. We use a anesthetic agent for a cocktail for infiltration which reduces the post operative pain of the patient for 4 to 5hr. after that patient is provide with pain killer and anti inflammatory drugs. These drugs reduces the pain for next days, after 2, 3 days patient does not feel pain rather than the stiffness.
